BMW Motorcycles - ATLAS Throttle Lock
You may be wondering if the ATLAS can handle everything you have planned for it. Yes it can! The ATLAS is on bikes in over 30 countries around the world and counting. We have riders actively circumnavigating the planet with the ATLAS on their motorcycles. You are in good company, no matter which continent you're on.
Oh, and extra points to anyone who knows where our logo with the diagonal lines comes from!
Neither Kits work on the R1200C and R1200CL because of the chrome grip flange. You will need to remove the chrome grip flange and replace it with a rubber BMW grip.

Top Kit: You'll want a Top Kit if:
- There is less than 1.5 inches (38 mm) of clearance between the tank and the throttle housing at full right turn.
- There's a heated grip wire that comes out the bottom half of your rubber grip flange.
Bottom Kit: You'll want the Bottom Kit if:
- There's a heated grip wire that comes out the top half of your rubber grip flange.
- There are no other interferences. The majority of motorcycles will be able to use the Bottom Kit.
What's included with the Kit?
Your kit comes with everything you need to mount the ATLAS on many different motorcycles.
- Installation Instructions
- Allen Key (2mm)
- 2 M3 Bolts with thread locker
- 3 sizes of friction pads (2 of each)
- Alcohol Prep Pad
Friction Pads are required.
The ATLAS Throttle Lock was designed to be used with friction pads. Friction pads can last anywhere from 3,000 miles to 40,000+ miles. The wear depends on how often you rotate the throttle while it is engaged and if your throttle housings has sharp edges that rub on the friction pad. If you need replacement friction pads, you can buy more here: Friction Pads.
Which friction pad should you use?
The friction pads come in 3 different thicknesses. Your kit comes with two of each size but you will only need to apply one pad to your ATLAS. Watch our installation video and follow the instructions to determine which friction pad works best. You will want to start with the thickest friction pad and see if it fits between the throttle housing and the ATLAS Stopper Arm. If it doesn't fit, try the next size down until you find the right size that does not make contact with the throttle housing when disengaged.
Where should I place my friction pad?
We recommend adhering the friction pad along the top edge of the Stopper Arm, but, for some motorcycles, this isn't the best solution. If your throttle housing has any bevels on it which will interfere with the friction pad during any part of the rotation, then you will want to adjust the placement of the friction pad to avoid those bevels. Sometimes this means placing the friction pad a few millimeters away from the top edge of the stopper arm, or maybe placing it to the far right or left on the stopper arm.

1. The chrome grip flange must be removed before mounting the ATLAS. Top Kit can be used after chrome grip flange is removed. Bottom Kit may interfere with use of indicator button on housing.
4. Installing the ATLAS on F800 models is very similar to the R1200 installation, the only difference is that the F800 has a narrower mounting surface. For F800 install instructions, refer to the R1200 installation video below.
I installed the Atlas throttle lock on my wife’s R1150GS prior to our trip from Southern California to Idaho. My wife is very excited and finds the system very reliable and easy to use. The only caveat is that the older BMWs have separate indicators for each side plus the indicator reset button is also on the right handle bar. The throttle lock is hence now requiring to reach around it to turn the right blinker on and push the reset button. We may try to adjust it a bit to minimize this small discomfort.
The installation, while generally no problem, required quite a bit of fiddling and I had to use a nut as spacer to get the lock tight without pressing too much on the throttle and locking it. I found this still acceptable for a universal piece of equipment.
Overall, this is a great device that makes riding long distances a good amount less exhausting. Highly recommended.
Well designed, well built, and easy to install. Also performs its intended function well, so I can definitely recommend.
a little tricky to get it positioned right on a BMW F650GS twin, but once one works well.
the teeth on the lock bar should be harden . mine stripped but atlas sent me a replacement at no cost.lock works great is not too hard to install would recommend.this to friends and others made my ride much better.thank you
I be found that the Atlas throttle lock is a sweet idea. I have a Kaoko on my K1300 s and I’m considering selling it because the Atlas work much easier. Not as pretty as the Kaoko but I’m looking for functionality pretty is second. On my 2017 F800GS pretty is not a worry it look cool and works better than any other throttle lock I’ve used.
