The Top Kit ATLAS was designed specifically for pre-2013 BMW motorcycles with right-hand turn signals, while the Bottom Kit ATLAS works beautifully with the 2013-present bikes.
You may be wondering if the ATLAS can handle everything you have planned for it. Yes it can! The ATLAS is on bikes in over 30 countries around the world and counting. Neither Kits work on the R1200C and R1200CL because of the chrome grip flange. You will need to remove the chrome grip flange and replace it with a rubber BMW grip.
Top Kit vs. Bottom Kit
Top Kit
You'll want a Top Kit if:
There is less than 1.5 inches (38mm) of clearance between the tank and the throttle housing at full right turn.
There's a heated grip wire that comes out of the bottom half of your rubber grip flange.
Bottom Kit
You'll want a Bottom Kit if:
There's a heated grip wire that comes out the top half of your rubber grip flange.
There are no other interferences. The majority of motorcycles will be able to use the Bottom Kit.

Steps to determine fitment
First, is there enough room for the ATLAS? All you need is a gap of 0.1" (2.5mm) or greater between the grip and the throttle housing. That's roughly 3 bank cards thick.
You'll want the Bottom Kit…
• If there’s a heated grip wire that comes out the top half of the rubber grip flange.
• If you have more than 1.5 inches (38mm) of clearance between the inner plastic throttle tube (under the rubber grip) and the gas tank at a full right turn.
• If there's a bulge, bracket or object sticking out of the top half of the throttle housing that would interfere with the body of the ATLAS.
You'll want the Top Kit…
• If there’s a heated grip wire that comes out the bottom half of the rubber grip flange.
• If you have less than 1.5 inches (38mm) of clearance between the inner plastic throttle tube (under the rubber grip) and the gas tank at a full right turn.
• If there's a bulge, bracket or object sticking out of the bottom half of the throttle housing that would interfere with the body of the ATLAS.

Fitment Notes
The ATLAS fits on most motorcycles without any issue. Some motorcycles might need minor adjustments to allow the ATLAS to fit properly.
Quick Tips
If you don't have enough room to mount the ATLAS Throttle Lock between your grip and the throttle housing, then pull the grip flange away from the throttle housing to gain more space. View our "Steps to determine fitment" video above for an example.

Friction Pads
Everything you need to know about using the friction pads with the Atlas Throttle Lock.
Friction Pads are required.
The ATLAS Throttle Lock was designed to be used with friction pads. Friction pads can last anywhere from 3,000 miles to 40,000+ miles. The wear depends on how often you rotate the throttle while it is engaged and if your throttle housings has sharp edges that rub on the friction pad. If you need replacement friction pads, you can buy more here:
Which friction pad should you use?
The friction pads come in 3 different thicknesses. Your kit comes with two of each size but you will only need to apply one pad to your ATLAS. Watch our installation videos and follow the instructions to determine which friction pad works best. You will want to start with the thickest friction pad and see if it fits between the throttle housing and the ATLAS Stopper Arm. If it doesn t fit, try the next size down until you find the right size that does not make contact with the throttle housing when disengaged.
Where should I place my friction pad?
We recommend adhering the friction pad along the top edge of the Stopper Arm, but, for some motorcycles, this isn t the best solution. If your throttle housing has any bevels on it which will interfere with the friction pad during any part of the rotation, then you will want to adjust the placement of the friction pad to avoid those bevels. Sometimes this means placing the friction pad a few millimeters away from the top edge of the stopper arm, or maybe placing it to the far right or left on the stopper arm.
